Plant History: Tejon Ranch was founded in 1843 and the principal asset of the company is 270,000 acres of land located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles, California. In late 1997, Tejon Ranch decided to build a 51 acre travel plaza with Petro Stopping Centers as the initial phase of a 350 acre Tejon Industrial Complex located adjacent to Interstate 5.

Santec Corporation contracted with Tejon Ranch to build, install and operate the wastewater treatment facility for the Tejon Industrial Complex. Phase I of the treatment facility was completed in June of 1999.

Plant Description: The wastewater treatment facility consists of a comminutor, bar screen and equalization basin in the headworks. The Phase I treatment plant is designed for 50,000 gallons per day of wastewater. The plant is manufactured using fiberglass tanks in series. The process is extended aeration/plug flow with 4 reactors followed by clarification. The wastewater is then pumped to the Centra-flo Sand filter followed by ultra-violet disinfection. The effluent water is stored in a pond and used for irrigation.

Tertiary Filters: The Centra-flo Gravity Sand Filter is designed to remove suspended solids from the flow stream after the clarifier and to meet CA Title 22 effluent standards. The peak design flow to the filter is 125 gpm with average solids loading being 10 mg/l TSS and a maximum of 50 mg/l TSS. The filter is designed to remove 75 to 80% of the influent TSS and produce water with 2 NTU or less.

Filter Startup: The first Centra-flo was put on line in June 1999. Operation data indicates that the filter is receiving influent solids of 17 mg/l TSS with the filtrate (effluent) solids being 3 to 5 mg/l TSS with 0.5 to 2 NTU.
